The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 might be the dullest in the series so far, but that is not stopping fans from running to the theaters to see what the film has to offer. We understand that the movie dominated the box office on Nov. 26 and 27, Thanksgiving Day itself.

Lionsgate is singing songs of joy as Mockingjay - Part 1 walked away with $14.5 million at the box office on Wednesday to hit a total of $158 million. That number increased after the film returned to winning ways again on the day of Thanksgiving by obtaining over $11 million in ticket sales.

The movie has made nearly $170 million in the United States and approximately $400 million internationally. At this rate, it is almost sure that the latest installment might end up making a billion dollars worldwide; not bad for a relatively terrible film.

So far, the new film is viewed as the worst. This is mainly because Mockingjay - Part 1 should have been the end. Because of money, however, Lionsgate chose to push for two parts. Expect The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 to perform better at the box office. Chances are, critics will find it more pleasing since all the good stuff has been reserved for the final bout.

With Hunger Games taking command at the box office and eating up everything, movies such as Penguins of Madagascar and Horrible Bosses 2 are finding it difficult to score big. It is clear that the folks behind those films chose the wrong time to launch and should have opted to get out the gates a month before or within 2015.

Penguins of Madagascar is having even more trouble as the film cost $132 million to make and is so far struggling to reach $40 million. At this rate, we doubt DreamWorks will even consider a part two unless a miracle happens between now and Christmas.

The next big film expected to hit the box office is The Hobbit. The film will launch on Dec. 17, and it is the final movie in the trilogy.
