Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the recently unveiled Kingdom Hearts 3 title, has confirmed that a Nintendo Switch version of the game could happen sometime in the future, but only after the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are completed.

Kingdom Hearts 3 On The Nintendo Switch?

Since Nintendo released its popular hybrid console, many fans have asked a variety of developers whether they plan on creating a Switch port of their games, which, more often than not, are made specifically for PC, PS4, or Xbox One only. The ability to play big-name, graphics-intensive games on the go makes any gaming fan ecstatic, but the Switch's limited hardware also makes gamers question if it's powerful enough to support PS4 and Xbox One ports.

Speaking with IGN, Nomura talked about the possibility of Kingdom Hearts 3 coming to the Switch. Essentially, the developers want to first focus on the PS4 and Xbox One versions before targeting other platforms such as the Switch.

"So for now, we want to focus on what platforms we've already announced we're going to be releasing Kingdom Hearts 3 on. And so after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities," said Nomura.

Nomura didn't mention a Switch port outright, so it's best not to keep one's hopes up. Yet "other possibilities" seem to refer to other consoles also capable of running Kingdom Hearts 3, and the Switch might just be up for that job. Again, it's not clear if this title will ever hit the Switch, or for that matter, if the Switch can run it without flaws. It's likely that the developers, upon completion of the main console versions, will start looking into development of a Switch port immediately, determining if the Nintendo's hardware can indeed support the title.

So while Kingdom Hearts 3 hasn't been ruled out for the Switch, there's no reason to get excited. To offer a bit of perspective, Square Enix previously talked about bringing Final Fantasy XV to PC, but has made no mention of it since.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced at Disney's D23 Expo on July 15, complemented by a Toy Story-themed trailer. The game features Sora with a number of Disney characters such as Woody and Buzz Lightyear, fighting hordes of enemies as they go. The game looks gorgeous and charming at the same time, putting beloved characters in action-packed scenes including right in the middle of Andy's front yard.

Square Enix also confirmed the game would come out sometime in 2018 for the PS4 and Xbox One.
