Samsung will officially unveil the Galaxy Note 8 at an Unpacked event in New York on Aug. 23, but there has been no word on when the highly anticipated smartphone will launch into the market — until now.

Information on the launch date of the Galaxy Note 8 has leaked, and its timing compared to the release dates of rival flagship smartphones reveals Samsung's strategy for the device.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Launch Date Leaked

According to a report by ETNews, an anonymous representative from one of the telecommunications companies in South Korea claimed that the Galaxy Note 8 will be released on Sept. 15 in Samsung's home country.

The representative did not say if the Sept. 15 launch date will be followed worldwide, but there is a very high possibility. This is because Samsung used a simultaneous global launch strategy for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, and the company will likely continue it with the Galaxy Note 8.

The start of preorders for the Galaxy Note 8 was also not specified, but South Korean carriers are pushing for a preorder window of 10 days to 14 days. If Samsung listens, the Galaxy Note 8 might also follow such a preorder period globally.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 vs Apple iPhone 8 vs LG V30

With a Sept. 15 release date, Samsung will start selling the Galaxy Note 8 before the iPhone 8 hits the market, as new iPhones by Apple usually go on sale at the end of September.

The Galaxy Note 8, however, will launch on the same day in South Korea as the LG V30, which is an extremely rare occurrence.

The timing of the Galaxy Note 8 release will allow Samsung to grab a lead of a couple of weeks over Apple, while directly challenging what could be the Galaxy Note 8's biggest rival among this year's flagship Android smartphones. The launch date of the Galaxy Note 8 is also a month later than the Aug. 19 release date of the failed Galaxy Note 7 last year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Final Design And Specifications

Samsung has not yet made its official announcement of the Galaxy Note 8, but prolific leaker Evan Blass has already given fans a good idea of what to expect from the upcoming device.

Blass recently uploaded high-quality Galaxy Note 8 renders that showed off the final design of the smartphone. He then followed that up with the final Galaxy Note 8 specifications, which include a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 for the United States version with 6 GB of RAM, dual 12 MP rear cameras, and a 3,300 mAh battery.
