Canon has released the 24.3-megapixel PowerShot G1 X Mark III, which is its first-ever APS-C sensor compact zoom camera. It comes in the sleek body of the last G1 X Mark II design for an extra DSLR-like appeal. It also boasts Canon's quick and perfect dual-pixel AF and a latest 2.36 million dot OLED EVF.

With a bigger sensor carried from the company's EOS 80D DSLR, the f/2.8-5.6 lens in the PowerShot G1 X Mark III is proficient in creating a depth-of-field and has a faster focus than company's DSLR or mirrorless kit lenses.

Features And Specifications

The latest 2.36 million dot EVF in the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III was one of the much-requested features by the users of the previous camera. The latest G1 X Mark III also has a 3.0-inch vari-angle display with touch and drag autofocus feature, which lets the user focus on the finger on the touchscreen while viewing through the EVF.

The latest compact camera, with the dual-pixel autofocus and a Digic 7 image processor, can capture anything at 7 fps with constant Auto Focus tracking or 9 fps with fixed tracking. Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III also boasts five-axis optical stabilization and a distinctive type of shutter release, which Canon in the press release describes as "more DSLR-like."

Video Front Is Disappointing

The dual-pixel Auto Focus in the latest camera improves focus rate for both still and video images, but with a serious warning next to its opponents. Since the other recent Canon models such as M100 mirrorless and the G1 X Mark III is restricted to produce 1080p 60fps video only, other hand rivals like Sony and Panasonic have cheaper compacts (the RX100 V and LX10), which can shoot even 4K at 30 fps and 1080p at 120 fps.

That being said the video front in the PowerShot G1 X Mark III is a bit disappointed. Since for the casual videographer, the shallow depth of field of the large sensor and fast focus performance of DPAF will probably make a bigger difference than 4K would have.

Other features of the Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III include a latest panoramic mode. This mode can stitch up to seven photos collectively. There's also WiFi, NFC, and Bluetooth features in the camera for easy sharing of photo and remote live-view shooting of photographs and video. Moreover, there's also a time-lapse mode which automatically set the intervals and display.

Price And Availability

The Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark III will be available next month for the price of US$1,299 that is quite a price hike on than its predecessor. In addition to this there will be a Canon Lens Hood LH-DC110, Waterproof Case WP-DC56 and Deluxe Leather Case PSC-6300 for the PowerShot G1 X Mark III available for an estimated retail price of US$59.99, US$499.99 and US$99.99 respectively.
