Amazon's Kindle e-reader, which revolutionized e-books for good, is turning 10 next month on Nov. 19. Ahead of its 10th anniversary, the retail company has decided to slash $30 off several Kindle models to mark the occasion.
This might finally be the best time to buy a Kindle for those who have been contemplating whether they should get one or not. Of course, buying physical books is still the best option for many bookworms out there, in part because nothing can replace the sheer tactical feeling of flipping through pages, but jumping into e-books is more than decent a recourse.
Amazon Discounts The Kindle For Its 10th Anniversary
The discounts bring the standard Kindle to just $49.99, which usually retails for $79.99; the Kindle Paperwhite to just $89.99, which usually retails for $119.99; and the Kindle Voyage to just $169.99, which usually retails for $199.99.
The deal begins Oct. 23 and last until Oct. 25, as The Verge reports. The sale, however, doesn't include the more recent and yet-to-be-released Kindle Oasis, which will still retail for $249.99 when it comes out at the end of this month. It's Amazon's first waterproof Kindle with an IPX8 rating. Accidentally dropped it in the pool? No problem: it can survive being submerged in about 2 meters of water for about an hour.
Amazon Is Also Discounting E-books
After buying the discounted Kindle, users will need some books to read. So Amazon is offering a variety of Kindle e-books too, slashing up to 80 percent off "top-selling books." It's also offering a free $5 credit toward any Kindle e-book to "select customers." It'll only work for accounts Amazon has marked as part of the select few. It won't hurt to check, though.
Users who are willing to shell out a little more can also go for a one-year Audible subscription, which offers cheaper prices for certain audiobooks. There's also Amazon's Unlimited Kindle service, which is exactly like a Netflix subscription but for books and popular magazines.

The first-ever Kindle was released in 2007 for $399, selling out in five and a half hours upon release. It had 250 MB of onboard storage, which could hold up to 200 e-books. It also featured a headphone jack that allowed Kindle owners to listen to audio files.
