Sony showcased a new gameplay trailer for the Shadow of the Colossus remake for the PlayStation 4 at Paris Games Week 2017, while also announcing the official release date of the game.

The video follows the Shadow of the Colossus trailer that was shown off at the Tokyo Game Show last month, further driving up the hype for the return of the iconic title.

Shadow Of The Colossus At Paris Games Week

Sony released a Shadow of the Colossus trailer at Paris Games Week that highlighted the amount of detail that developer Bluepoint incorporated into the environments of the remake. The video showed Wander, the game's protagonist, peacefully moving through mountains, jungles, and deserts on his faithful horse Agro.

Players who are looking to catch a glimpse of action of the Shadow of the Colossus remake will have their wishes granted. Sony also launched a gameplay trailer at Paris Games Week featuring Wander's battle with the thirteenth colossus, named Phalanx. Wander is seen riding Agro to chase down Phalanx, before he manages to get on the beast's back to drive a sword into a sigil, harming the colossus.

Phalanx is just one of the 16 colossi that Wander needs to take down in the game, which was a groundbreaking title when it was first released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. That is because there are no towns or dungeons to explore in Shadow of the Colossus, leaving players simply with Wander and the missions to take down the 16 bosses within an expansive world.

It should be reiterated that the upcoming game is a full-blown Shadow of the Colossus remake, and not just a remaster that slightly upgraded its graphics to the PlayStation 4 just as what was done to bring the game to the PlayStation 3. The elements of the game are rebuilt from scratch. There will be an optional control scheme, but no additional colossi or other additional elements.

One of the benefits of the remake is that Shadow of the Colossus will look so much better than a simple remaster. The game will run at 30 frames per second on the PlayStation 4 and at 4K and 30 frames per second on the PlayStation 4 Pro. A document, however, revealed that PlayStation 4 Pro owners can also run the game at 60 frames per second, but at 1080p resolution.

Shadow Of The Colossus Release Date

The Shadow of the Colossus remake was previously given a release date of sometime in 2018. At Paris Games Week, it was finally revealed that the game will be launched on Feb. 6, 2018 for the PlayStation 4, which means that it is only just about three months away from being reborn into the current-generation console.
