In light of Apple being named one of the top 10 most disruptive ideas in recent history, Steve Wozniak, Apple co-founder, recently gave an interview discussing the origins of the company.

While many people believe Apple was effectively started in Steve Jobs' parents garage, Wozniak pretty much debunked that idea during his interview.

"The garage is a bit of a myth. We did no designs there, no breadboarding, no prototyping, no planning of products. We did no manufacturing there," said Wozniak during the interview. "The garage didn't serve much purpose, except it was something for us to feel was our home. We had no money. You have to work out of your home when you have no money."

Wozniak went on to say that they quickly outgrew the garage.

"There were hardly ever more than two people in the garage and mostly they were sitting around kind of doing nothing productive," he said.

Wozniak, along with late co-founder Steve Jobs, went on to make the Apple II computer, which was the first computer to sell over 1 million units.

Wozniak also spoke about working with Jobs in high school and how the two came to create the company that would go on to be Apple. He said while he and Ron Wayne, another co-founder of Apple, saw the world was on the brink of a massive computer revolution, it took Steve Jobs a little longer to see it.

"He had always spoken about wanting to be a person that moves the world forward, but he couldn't really create things and design them like I could. Steve wanted a company real badly," said Wozniak. "His thinking was not necessarily about what computers would do for the average Joe in the average home. Steve found the words that explained what these computers would do for people and how important it was a little later in life."

While the fact a garage did not serve a huge purpose in the founding of Apple, it does not take away from the "rags to riches" story that it is. Whether they built the computers in their garage or in their living room, the story of Apple remains more or less intact. Apple was picked as the 10th-most disruptive technology in the last 85 years by Businessweek in its 85th anniversary issue.

Wozniak has been in the news a lot recently, with rumors continuing to circulate about who will play him in the upcoming film about Steve Jobs, as well as the announcement of a new show about the future of technology called The Woz, which Wozniak will host.
