Razer has announced a USB-C iteration of its Hammerhead earbuds, meant to complement its just-released Razer Phone, which like many other flagships in 2017 has no traditional headphone jack.

Razer Hammerhead USB-C

While designed primarily for the Razer Phone, the Hammerhead earbuds will work just as fine on any other Android device that has a USB-C port, like the Samsung Galaxy S8, LG V30, or nearly every modern Android flagship, really.

There's not a lot to be said about the headphones because they're very similar to Razer's old pair. From the flat green cables to the in-line mic and controls to the bi-flanged ear tips, they're both essentially identical.

The Hammerhead promises "big, epic sound," with the implication being that it has more of a bassy soundstage. It's hard to believe, but the Hammerhead apparently comes with a custom-tuned DAC (digital-to-analog converter) that's supposed to leverage "digital audio output" so the user gets "uncompressed audio." Razer says this helps deliver the "purest and most accurate sound anywhere you are."

Audio performance has to be heard to be believed, but Razer says the 10mm dynamic drivers on the Hammerhead are larger than what most earbuds in the same price range have. There are many factors that determine how good a pair of headphones are, and having large dynamic drivers is one of them, because they help boost the overall sound.

On top of those, the flat cables are tangle-free, and the earbuds feature magnetic plates that can be attached together when they're not in use. Razer is also throwing in a custom carrying case to keep things neat and organized.

The Razer Hammerhead USB-C is available directly from the company's online store for $79.99. For a limited time, Razer is offering free shipping to U.S. customers for orders over $49.

Razer Phone

The Razer Phone is now also available in the United States, retailing for $700. It's similar to any premium flagship phone released this year, though Razer says it's made for gaming, and that certainly seems the case with the phone's 8 GB of RAM. That's quite a lot for something so tiny, but hey, no one's complaining.

The phone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, a 5.7-inch 1440p display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, ensuring smoother frame rates and no visual lag. On the front are dual front-facing stereo speakers, and on the back are dual 12-megapixel cameras. Keeping everything juiced up is a 4,000 mAh battery.
