The Samsung Galaxy S9, the next flagship smartphone for the company after this year's Galaxy Note 8, might not be able to dethrone Apple's iPhone X, according to leaked benchmark results.

The expectations are high for the Galaxy S9, but it appears that it will fall short in challenging Apple's premium smartphone.

Galaxy S9 Geekbench Results Leaked

A Samsung device with the designation SM-G960F appeared on Geekbench, and it is widely believed that the smartphone in question is the global version of the Galaxy S9.

According to the benchmark results, the Galaxy S9 is powered by Android 8.0 Oreo and a new octa-core Samsung Exynos chipset with 4 GB of RAM.

The Galaxy S9 managed to score 2680 in single-core tests and 7787 in multi-core tests. Meanwhile, the iPhone X scored 4197 in single-core tests and 10051 in multi-core tests.

With these results, it appears that the Galaxy S9 will not be able to challenge the iPhone X in terms of performance. However, it should be noted that Geekbench scores are not the only indicators in determining the real-world performance of a smartphone. There are also other factors that will play into a customer's decision on whether they would purchase the Galaxy S9 instead of the iPhone X.

In addition, there is also the possibility that the SM-G960F is not the Galaxy S9 after all. Even if it is, there is the chance that Samsung will improve the scores through software optimization between now and the Galaxy S9 launch early next year.

What We Know So Far About The Galaxy S9

It has long been rumored that in addition to the new Exynos chipset, the Galaxy S9 will also feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Previous reports also claimed that the Galaxy S9 camera will be powered by a new image sensor by Samsung that will allow users to record videos at a maximum of 1,000 frames per second. The smartphone, however, is not expected to feature a fingerprint sensor embedded within the screen, as it will not be ready until the Galaxy Note 9.

The most recent rumor surrounding the upcoming flagship smartphone is that Samsung is working on releasing a Galaxy S9 Mini. The smartphone will be the third model after the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 and the 6.2-inch Galaxy S9+, and is believed to have a screen smaller than 5 inches.

Samsung fans will know whether the reports are true, including the final Galaxy S9 benchmark score, once the smartphone is announced as early as February 2018.
