Microsoft is working on a Photos app for Android and iOS, aiming to make it easier for users to quickly transfer photos and videos from their mobile device to their PC.

The Photos companion app will soon become available for Windows 10 testers, but it might be a while before it's ready for public release. Microsoft's OneDrive app already offers similar functionality, allowing users to transfer photos from their smartphone to the Windows 10 Photos app. However, the standalone Photos companion app will target users who don't back up their photos to OneDrive.

Microsoft Photos For Android And iOS

Currently, transferring photos from Android or iOS onto a PC can be a bit of a hassle for many mobile users, but Microsoft plans to fix that. Version 2017.39101.15230.0 for Windows 10 PC as spotted by Italian blog Aggiornamenti Lumia, will enable smooth and fast wireless transfers between mobile devices and PCs connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Once it gets the necessary feedback from Windows 10 testers and Microsoft deals with any potential bugs or issues, the Microsoft Photos companion app should not take too long before it makes its way to the Google Play and Apple's App Store.

Other Features In Latest Windows 10 Version For Testers

Aside from the new Photos companion app, Windows 10 PC version 2017.39101.15230.0 will also bring a number of other features and improvements. Some of these changes are public and visible to all Windows Insiders while others are hidden and visible only to select Insiders invited to take part in this test.

The public features include new content including music, themes, and special effects available exclusively to Office 365 users. Other additions will bring story enhancements, as well as a switch for requesting A/B testing access.

The hidden features, meanwhile, will bring a new Favorite section similar to the one on Windows 10 Mobile, allowing users to add photos to favorites simply by pressing the "F" key. Microsoft Photo Stories will also expand the Story Special Effects Collection with stickers and texts, enabling users to make fun creations.

The Photos companion app for Android and iOS stands out the most, however, and it's among the hidden features of the new test build. Microsoft has yet to offer any official details regarding the upcoming app, but it should offer more information once it concludes the testing process. For now, it remains unclear just when this app will actually become available to the general public.
