The powerful iMac Pro announced back in June is ready to hit retail, as Apple has officially announced that it will go on sale on Thursday, Dec. 14.

Apple did say back in June that it will release its iMac Pro in December but so far, no specific launch date has been available. The company has now officially updated its website to list Dec. 14 as the release date, which means the beastly device will be ready for purchase just in time for the holidays.

iMac Pro Specs And Release

The iMac Pro made its debut back at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference as the company's ramped up professional-grade variant of its popular iMac all-in-one PC. It's the first version ever and it sparked great interest, but it won't come cheap.

Apple has yet to offer any additional details on the iMac Pro available configurations and pricing, but the AIO is expected to start at a hefty $4,999. For that price, the powerful machine will deliver plenty of oomph. The base model packs an 8-core Xeon processor, 32 GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD.

A higher-end and more expensive variant boasts an 18-core processor while a middle version sports a 10-core processor. The RAM is upgradeable to 64 GB or 128 GB while the SSD can go up to 2 TB or 4 TB of storage.

For graphics, it uses a Radeon Pro Vega 56 graphics processing unit with 8 GB of HMB2 memory. However, those looking for more power in this department can also opt for a Radeon Pro Vega 64 GPU with 16 GB of HBM2 memory.

The iMac Pro features a 27-inch Retina 5K display and sports a Space Gray design, exclusive to the Pro model. The chassis houses four Thunderbolt 3 USB-Type C ports, four USB 3 full-sized ports, and an SDXC card slot.

Price

The only pricing information available so far is that the base model will cost $4,999 and the higher the configuration, the higher the price. With the official release just around the corner, additional pricing details will become available soon enough.

The iMac Pro targets professionals who feel the current iMacs are not powerful enough. With this in mind, the latest Apple desktop computer is designed to easily handle high-performance creative tasks such as editing 3D graphics and 4K video.

In addition to the professional-grade iMac Pro, Apple is also rumored to launch a modular Mac Pro desktop next year. More information on the device's specs, capabilities, and release will likely surface in early 2018.
