'Pokémon GO' Holiday Event 2017: Get New Gen 3 Pokémon, Santa Hat Pikachu, And More

Pokémon GO is showing its holiday spirit with the release of its second holiday event. The holiday event runs from Dec. 21 until Jan. 4, 2018, where players will receive a handful of discounts and giveaways.

This year, Niantic comes bearing plenty of gifts for trainers in the form of new water-and ice-type Pokémon, a special edition Pikachu who is also embracing the holiday season, and a new drop of generation-three Pokémon.

The New Pokémon

The game developer teased the addition of more water and ice types coming to the game, with each coming from Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire's Hoenn region. From the games artwork, the Pokémon coming include: Sharpedo, Snorunt, Luvdisc, Milotic, and the legendary Kyogre.

Also returning to the Pokémon GO holiday event is the santa hat-wearing Pikachu.

Other 'Pokémon GO' Holiday Event Updates

Aside from the plethora of new Pokémon arriving to the mobile game, trainers will also be able to pick up much-needed in-game items. From Dec. 22 to Dec.25, players will receive an egg incubator from the first PokéStop they visit each day.

Players will also see discounts on super incubators, lure modules, and a new item called Star Pieces. The new items will increase the amount of stardust a player collects for a limited time.

A New Legendary Raid

While the Holiday announcement has given new excitement to the mobile game, there is one aspect that is raising questions among many Pokémon fans.

The holiday artwork shows the legendary Pokémon Kyogre, and if you're not familiar with the game then you need to know that legendary Pokémon are not easy to catch.

In fact, the only way to catch a legendary is through a raid. At the moment, Kyogre's counterpart from Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Groudon, is available for raid battles until Jan. 15, 2018. So that leaves the question, how will Kyogre be caught?

It's probably safe to assume that Niantic will release more information around Christmas day when the incubator bonus finishes, and perhaps that's when the legendary Pokémon will arrive.
