With its previous models recently getting Google's Android 8.0 Oreo update, the OnePlus 5T is expecting to receive its latest operating system upgrade soon.

Given the current situation, the 5T is the only smartphone model from OnePlus that is yet to receive the latest Android software version. Nevertheless, the company confirmed that its current flagship unit is expected to receive the new software version early in 2018.

Keeping Users' Hopes Up

In the meantime, OnePlus hopes to appease its consumers with an open beta for the upcoming Android 8.0 Oreo update. The announcement was apparently written in German, which, if translated, suggests that the open beta should be available now.

Strangely, the official download page for the open beta does not have the link available just yet. Sources suspect that it could be uploaded soon or in the next few days. As of this writing, the link still shows the OxygenOS version 4.7.4 as the only one available, which was last posted on Dec. 11, 2017.

Almost There

Despite the similarity between the names, the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 only share a few hardware specifications. Its difference is presumably the logical reason why the latter model received its Android Oreo 8.0 a week ago.

Picture-in-picture, notification channels, and autofill are just some of the new features added to the device. However, Face Unlock was not included and will arrive in another future update for the smartphone.

Taking The Plunge Or Waiting?

Once the open beta goes live, the company expects that a lot of OnePlus 5T owners will upgrade their handsets. Users are expected to find bugs and report them in order to help the developers correct them. The remaining owners will most likely hold off and wait for the final OTA update to eventually go live, which is suspected to be sometime in January 2018.

Even though its common knowledge that the unfinished versions of the OS might cause the handset to become unstable, Android's open nature allows users to just simply reflash their smartphones back the most stable build of the software.

Flagship Killer Hardware

Ever since the first model came out, OnePlus has always promoted its formidable lineup as flagship killers. The brand's products are sufficiently capable of taking on the latest models from the competition.

It flaunts a 6-inch Optic AMOLED display covered by a Gorilla Glass 5 panel for protection. RAM is dependent on the internal storage option with 6GB allocated for the 64GB model and 8GB for the 128GB variant.

An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset beats at its heart along with OxygenOS 4.7 out-of-the-box.

The OnePlus 5T also sports smaller bezels courtesy of its relocated fingerprint sensor. The biometric unit is now located on the rear panel of its metal chassis.

Users can regularly check for the stable OTA Android 8.0 Oreo update via the software update option, which is projected to become available soon.
