Customers can now walk in at any Apple Store, drop $5,000 to get a new iMac Pro, and bring it home on the same day. That's right — Apple's beastly desktop is now available for in-store pickup, but there's a catch.

Apple iMac Pro Ready For In-Store Pickup

Same day in-store pick-ups are only applicable for base models, meaning users who want to purchase the iMac Pro and be able to bring it home immediately can't customize it in any way. That's because any changes to the base configuration will add at least a week's worth of waiting time, and the kind of people who'd drop $5,000 on a machine like this will most certainly want configurations applied.

Nevertheless, Apple Stores around the country are now offering it for in-store pickup, so interested customers can come down right now to an Apple brick-and-mortar location and get the iMac Pro. It officially went on sale just earlier this month and initial orders began shipping last week. Check if it's available now at the nearest Apple retail store by hitting Apple's website.

Apple iMac Pro Specs

The iMac Pro was announced at the 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference, packed with Intel Xeon processors, Radeon Vega graphics, and all-new Space Gray body, similar to the skin of its more modern MacBook line. Quite simply, it is the most powerful machine Apple has ever built by far, but that could soon be eclipsed by a new iteration of the Mac Pro that Apple is currently working on.

As mentioned, the iMac Pro starts at $5,000, but users can spec the hell out of it to include up to a 2.3 GHz 18-core Intel Xeon W processor with 4.3 GHz Turbo Boost, 128 GB of ECC RAM, 4 TB of SSD storage, and a Radeon Pro Vega 64 GPU with 16 GB of HMB2 memory. They can throw in a Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 as well, in Space Gray, it's worth noting. Bumping the specs up could raise the price up to more than $13,000.

On the other hand, the base iMac Pro model comes with pretty stellar specs to begin with. For $5,000, users get a 5K display, an 8-core Intel Xeon W processor, 32 GB of ECC RAM, 1 TB of SSD storage, and a Radeon Pro Vega 56 GPU with 8 GB of HBM2 memory. Users who do any sort of significant work on software like Final Cut Pro X stand to benefit from the machine's new 8-core processor, which features 16 threads.
