Samsung continues to push for the mainstream use of Thunderbolt 3 on future devices as they introduce a new curved QLED monitor at CES 2018.

Its new monitor will carry the model number CJ791 and is reportedly designed to be used for entertainment, business, and more. The 34-inch curved display sports a 3,440 x 1440 resolution, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a classy design that's also height-adjustable.

Notable Features

The manufacturer notes that professionals and gamers will find the monitor's wide-angle view optimal for their respective applications. Following in the footsteps of the previous models, the new model also boasts a 125 percent color reproduction rate.

Its biggest draw is the Thunderbolt 3 compatibility, which can apparently charge a laptop with up to 85 watts of power. Likewise, the same technology is capable of handling up to 40 Gbps processing speed.

On the subject of gaming, the CJ791 includes a Game Mode option that automatically tweaks the contrast and color depending on the scene.

Thunderbolt 3

Samsung's new curved QLED monitor design, function, and features position it as an attractive piece of hardware. Nevertheless, it looks like its Thunderbolt 3 connectivity is its most important feature that has drawn consumers' attention. CES 2018 attendees will be able to catch a demo of the new monitor at work.

The port's processing speed is roughly four times faster than USB and its versatility makes it a worthwhile option. Compatibility with USB Type-C and different docks makes the CJ791 a great monitor for those looking to upgrade from the older model.

"As the pioneer of the curved monitor Industry, Samsung continues to seek new ways to refine our displays and exceed consumer's expectations on heightened performance and presentation," says Seog-gi Kim, executive vice president of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "The CJ791 aligns Thunderbolt 3 connectivity with our best-in-class curvature and QLED picture quality to captivate and engage users."

The Competition Intensifies

Samsung is hardly the only brand that has a monopoly over Thunderbolt 3 connectivity. LG has also prepared for CES 2018 with their new nano IPS ultra-wide monitor, which is also equipped with Thunderbolt 3.

Other than monitors, Samsung and LG are also competing against each other with their smartphones. Several sources have speculated that the electronics show will see the debut of the LG G7 and the Samsung Galaxy S9. Other rumors claim that both brands want to be the firsts to show off their flagship models equipped with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 845 SoC.
