Dell unveiled an all-new XPS 13 ahead of CES 2018, but the company apparently had something bigger in store for the annual event.

Dell announced the XPS 15 2-in-1, a computer that will likely prove to be a worthy competitor to the Apple MacBook Pro once it launches in the spring with a $1,299 starting price.

Dell XPS 15 2-in-1: Here Are All The Details

The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1, with its 15-inch screen, is not just a larger version of the XPS 13 2-in-1. For starters, while the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 uses the low-power processors formerly known as Core M, the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 packs a lot more punch.

Inside the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is a 65-watt Intel Kaby Lake G chip, either the Core i5-8305G or the Core i7-8705G. Attached to the chip is an integrated AMD Radeon RX Vega M graphics. This chip is the first partnership of Intel and AMD in three decades, combining powerful processors from Intel with the popular Radeon brand of GPUs.

Another interesting feature in the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is its so-called "maglev" keyboard. While it looks like a regular keyboard, The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1's maglev keyboard is built using a new mechanism involving magnets. The keys are held to their places by the corners, but the magnets underneath them provide feedback. By adjusting the strength of the magnets, users can experience a deeper click when pressing the keys compared to normal keyboards.

The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 is also a lot thinner compared to the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, with thickness of only 9 millimeters to 16 millimeters. This also makes the device lighter, weighing only 4.3 pounds.

Other important Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 features include the UltraSharp 4K Ultra HD InfinityEdge touch display, a 75Wh battery for 15 hours of battery life, Corning Gorilla Glass 4, and storage options from 128 GB SATA to 1 TB SSD.

Similarities Of Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 And Dell XPS 13 2-in-1

The first similarity of the Dell XPS 15 and the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 computers are their form factors, as their screen can be folded all the way back so it can be used like a tablet or propped up like a tent.

The Dell XPS 15 2-in-1, however, also has a similarity with the recently unveiled new model of the Dell XPS 13. Both computers will drop USB Type-A ports in favor of a pair of USB Type-C ports. The new 2-in-1 computer also comes with a pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports, a microSD card reader, and a headphone jack.
