The 2019 Ford Edge ST performance SUV is apparently ready to make its debut at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, and it's shaping up as a real treat.

Coming up as the first Ford crossover to boast some major performance tweaks, the 2019 Ford Edge ST sports a new trim, a new look, and plenty of exciting features.

2019 Ford Edge ST Specs

For those unfamiliar with the Ford Edge, it's a 4-door hatchback that can fit five passengers, with sufficient cargo space. It's a solid crossover that hasn't seen serious tinkering for a good while, up until now.

The new crossover Ford Edge ST SUV comes with a 2.7-liter twin turbo V6 engine, rocking 335 horsepower and gunning at 380 pound-feet of torque. That's 20 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque extra compared to the 2018 Edge Sport, which should translate into a notably increased output.

It sports an 8-speed automatic transmission that shifts quickly as needed, powering all four wheels. Ford also included a Sport mode, which is designed to deliver optimal transmission and engine performance. As expected from an ST, the new crossover SUV also sports bigger breaks.

The 2019 Ford Edge ST also comes with a sport suspension with revamped springs and dampers, which allow for better cornering tricks. It comes with standard 20-inch wheels, but a 21-inch wheel option is also available, as are Pirelli P Zero tires. Paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel, meanwhile, will allow drivers to manually shift the gears of the new Ford Edge ST.

Another new thing, the latest ST crossover SUV brings to the table is programming for better traction and stability control, sporting relaxed modes that allow for more leeway before intervening.

2019 Ford Edge ST SUV Design

In terms of looks, the new Edge ST SUV stands out from the other 2019 Ford Edge vehicles by featuring deeper side skirts, a black hexagonal grille, and dual exhaust outlets.

The car also has an embedded modem and Wi-Fi, able to fire up a hot spot with a 50-foot range, allowing up to 10 devices to connect to it. The FordPass Connect mobile app, meanwhile, will allow users to locate, unlock, and start the car remotely.

The Ford Edge ST's software also plays nice with Amazon's Alexa voice service, allowing users to interact with the digital assistant straight from the car. A 12-speaker B&O Play system from Harman will handle audio.

No pricing details are available at this point for the new Ford Performance Edge ST model, but a 2018 Ford Edge Sport retails for roughly $40,000. The new model will likely cost at least a few thousand more, but nothing is confirmed for now. Ford will unveil its new 2019 Edge ST crossover SUV at the Detroit Auto Show next week.
