The latest Android 8.1 Oreo update brought some lock screen issues for Google Pixel and Nexus users, but Google is looking into the matter.

While Android 8.1 Oreo brought some neat tweaks and improvements, the lock screen issues are marring the experience and users are growing increasingly frustrated. No official fix is available at this point, but the company should address the problem soon enough.

Nexus And Pixel Lock Screen Issues After Update

According to multiple Nexus and Pixel users who took to Reddit and Google's official support forums, the smartphones are now facing troubles with the lock screen. Users report that they either have to swipe up several times before the phone registers the gesture and takes them to the unlock screen, or they have to try multiple times to swipe notifications away from the lock screen. Others, meanwhile, report having trouble swiping down on the notification bar to see their notifications.

Google started rolling out the Android 8.1 Oreo update to Nexus and Pixel devices in early December, and user reports complaining of such swipe issues have been piling up ever since.

Google Investigating Android 8.1 Oreo Bug

Orrin, a community manager, has now finally acknowledged the issue and said that Google is investigating the matter. The company will contact affected users to collect more information and bug reports so it can get to the bottom of this and deliver a fix.

That said, no information is currently available as to how long it would take Google to fix this matter, or what caused it in the first place. The lock screen bug seems to be affecting only Nexus and Pixel smartphones running the Android 8.1 Oreo build.

Until Google issues an official fix, users have been trying to come up with a workaround to deal with this problem. One Reddit user, for instance, reports that they managed to get rid of this lock screen problem by restarting their smartphone in recovery mode. For other users, however, this workaround doesn't seem to do the trick.

The good news is that Google is aware of this bug and is working on it, so it shouldn't take too long before it releases an update to patch things up.
