A sizeable number of 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk owners will need to submit their units for inspection following a recall order prompted by fuel line issues.

A report issued by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has indicated that the fuel lines of specific 2018 models of the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk run the risk of getting detached, which could lead to engine install and possible vehicle crash. The same problem could trigger engine-compartment fire that poses injury to drivers and passengers.

Authorities have estimated that around 1,200 JGC Trackhawks will be affected by the recall order, which, according to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), manufacturer of the Jeep SUVs, will commence early March. FCA said the fuel line error was due to "a misaligned sensor" detected on Trackhawks that were assembled between Oct. 10 and Dec. 10, 2017.

Also, the carmaker identified the supplier of the fuel line as Martinrea International. The company added that to date, no accidents and injuries concerning the issue have been reported to them. It is understood the recall order is mostly a precautionary measure.

In addition, JCG Trackhawk owners are advised that the checking and replacement of the fuel lines will be carried out by specific FCA and Jeep dealers free of charge.

What Owners Should Know And Do

In light of the recall, FCA said it will send out notifications to affected Jeep owners starting March 2. Another course is for unit owners to visit SafeCar.gov to check on their vehicle identification number (VIN) and to get more specifics on the recall process.

The automaker added it has set up a hotline, which is 1-800-853-1403, for Jeep owners to get quick updates on the matter. For the same concerns, the NHTSA can be contacted as well at 1- 888-327-4236.

It's important to note that the less powerful versions of the Jeep Cherokee SUV will not be included on the recall order. FCA said these "lesser models" were deemed safe from the projected risks due to lower performance impact on the fuel lines.

High Performance Pressure

In contrast, the Cherokee Trackhawk was designed as an all-wheel drive with top-of-the-line specifications. The Jeep model boasts of a 6.2-liter supercharged Helicat engine that can generate 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque.

When the powerhouse Helicat on the JGC Trackhawk works in tandem with the four-wheel traction structure, FCA said the vehicle can easily accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in mere 3.5 seconds. However, the same powerful attributes could lead to a disastrous scenario for the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk if the fuel line issues are not corrected.
