Spotify is testing a new music app, which will offer users the ability to listen to music based on their favorite genres and playlists.

Spotify Is Testing A New Music App Called Stations

Called Stations, Spotify claims it will be the "easiest way to listen to the music you love," according to the app's Google Play description. Initially, Stations is currently only available for Android devices.

We reached out to Spotify to see if the music app will launch on the App Store, and a representative said Stations by Spotify is just a test being done on Android.

Stations App Not Confirmed On iOS

Most of the popular music apps on Google Play such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and Apple Music are available on iOS, so it'll be a surprise if Spotify didn't launch Stations on the App Store. The company is probably sitting back to see how successful the new app becomes on Google Play before it launches on the App Store.

Too Much Access To Music Makes It Hard To Find What To Play

"When you have access to all the music in the world, finding the right thing to play can feel like a challenge," said Spotify.

With Stations, Spotify wants to provide a music listening experience where users can automatically listen to music while browsing through the app. Stations by Spotify has various music channels such Classic R&B, Indie, Folk, Acoustic Hits, Feel Good, Workout, Roadtrip, and Jazz.

By liking songs, users can unlock personalized stations, such as Discover Weekly, Easy Listening, Classic Pop, etc.

"You can listen immediately, and switching stations is simple and seamless — no searching or typing needed," said Spotify. "As you listen, it learns what you like and creates personalized stations that you'll love."

Since Stations is brand new, the music app currently only has around 100 downloads, which is mostly from Spotify staff testing out the new music service on their Android handsets. It's expected Stations will get more downloads as more people find out about it.

Get this: Spotify also says Stations will be "totally free." Spotify Premium gives users access to more than 30 million songs, along with no ads, for $9.99 per month. There's also a free version of Spotify, but it's filled with unwanted ads. Like Pandora, Stations by Spotify is looking to offer users a personalized music experience that evolves with listener's tastes.
