The developer of Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us, NetherRealm Studios, is teaming up with the WWE to bring a new free-to-play mobile game to Android and iOS devices in 2015.

It's called WWE Immortals, and according to the game's press release "will feature epic Superstar battles in a fantastically re-imagined WWE world." Along with NetherRealm, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is also bringing Phosphor Game Studios to help on the project. Phosphor's previous games include The Dark Meadow, a horror game for mobile devices, and the first-person shooter Nether. No screenshots (the image above is from WWE All Stars) or other details about the game exist at this time.

"NetherRealm Studios are experts in creating award-winning games and the team is working hard to deliver the same quality of engaging gameplay with WWE Immortals," says Greg Ballard, senior vice president for mobile, social and emerging platforms at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

The partnership seems like a perfect fit. WWE recently found success with its free-to-play mobile title WWE SuperCard in August, which reached more than 1.5 million downloads in the game's first week available. NetherRealm is also no stranger to the mobile market. Their free-to-play mobile port of the DC Comics fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us was well received by fans and proved to be popular with pretty much everyone. Wrestling fans can expect something special when WWE Immortals releases next year.

So what might be in store for wrestling fans? Warner Bros., sadly, isn't revealing any more details about the game, but the "fantastically re-imagined WWE world" line from the press release is certainly interesting. Might we see NetherRealm develop a dramatic new take on the WWE Universe, complete with brutal fatalities? Okay, maybe that is just wishful thinking, but NetherRealm will be releasing the latest installment in the Mortal Kombat franchise in 2015 as well. Mortal Kombat X releases on April 14 for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. If you need your WWE video game fix right now, you can always check out this year's WWE 2K15.
