Back in April 2017, LG faced a class action lawsuit involving bootloop issues that persisted on many of its phones, including the V10, V20, G4, G5, and the Google Nexus 5X. LG has now finally reached a settlement, offering affected consumers the option to receive $425 in cash or a $700 rebate if they want to buy a future LG phone.

The issue, which stemmed from a manufacturing defect on the aforementioned devices, caused consumers' phones to become inoperable or be stuck in an infinite reboot cycle, which rendered them useless. Girard Gibbs, the law firm that represented several owners of the models mentioned above, took the case after learning about bootloop issues.

LG Bootloop Lawsuit

Originally, the lawsuit only involved the G4 and the V10, but the three other models were added to the proceedings in April 2017. The court found out eventually that the bootlooping issue was caused by poor soldering on the CPU, which caused models to freeze, repeatedly attempt to boot, and become practically unusable and defunct.

Proof Of Claim Survey

Those affected by the bootloop issues and are part of the class action should fill out and submit a "Proof of Claim" survey before Feb. 12 to receive either the two aforementioned settlements. However, as of this writing, visiting the link to the survey brings up a message saying it's been closed. This could be due to the number of people attempting to access the survey all at once, but keep checking back in case it reactivates.

Those who did manage to submit their proof of claims survey can expect their payment distribution to begin sometime in March. How much money LG will lose because of the settlement has not been made clear.

LG V30

The rebate option is almost the cost of a brand-new LG V30, the company's latest flagship, released in 2017. It's hailed as one of the best flagships of that year, and to this day, it's an all-around excellent device, especially for video recording. Best of all, it has remained immune to bootlooping, according to Android Authority. The second option will probably be the more popular one, as it'll give users $425 in cash, which they could use to buy a decent midrange phone that doesn't have bootloop issues. Or they could get the rebate, purchase an LG V30, and then sell it to get more money.
