Essential will launch three limited edition colors for the Essential Phone, which landed in TechTimes' Best Smartphones of 2017 beside the iPhone X, LG V30, Google Pixel 2, Galaxy Note 8, and OnePlus 5T.

Orders for one of the new Essential Phone colors are now being accepted, while the other two colors will go on sale over next week.

New Essential Phone Colors, But For $100 More

In an official blog post, Essential announced that it will release three new limited edition colors for the Essential Phone.

The first new color is named Ocean Depths, which is a unique combination of teal on the back and a copper frame. The option is now available through the Essential website.

The second new color is named Stellar Gray, and it combines black, white, and matte, perfect for those who do not like the piano-like surface of the standard Essential Phone. The option will become available on Feb. 20, at 12 pm PST.

Lastly, the third new color is named Copper Black, which uses the copper frame of Ocean Depths with the back of the all-black Essential Phone. It will be available on Feb. 22, also at 12 pm PST

The limited edition Essential Phone models will only change the colors of the device, with the smartphones to come with the same internal specifications and features of the original versions. However, they will be $100 more expensive than the previous models, bringing the price tag to $599.

Will Limited Edition Essential Phone Colors Help Sales?

According to Essential, it will only release a "small batch" of these three colors because of the difficulty in producing colored ceramic components. The company, however, did not reveal exactly how many units will be made for each of Ocean Depths, Stellar Gray, and Copper Black.

It remains to be seen whether the limited edition color options for the Essential Phone will help drive up sales for the smartphone though. Despite positive reviews from various sources for its powerful specifications and near-vanilla version of Android, the Essential Phone did not get off to a good start due to its $699 price tag and concerns from consumers due to multiple launch delays.

Over its first month from its September 2017 release, the Essential Phone sold only about 5,000 units through exclusive partner Sprint. The Essential Phone price was dropped to $499 in October 2017, but by the end of last year, Essential Phone sales did reached a bit fewer than 90,000 units.

At an additional $100 cost, will the new colors generate enough hype for the Essential Phone? We will soon find out.
