A number of Fortnite players have reported that hackers have gained access to their accounts and made fraudulent charges to their linked cards or PayPal accounts.

Such reports have been piling up over the past month, yet no explanation or solution is available at this point. Affected users have reached out to Epic Games regarding their hacked accounts but are still waiting for a solution.

According to a new report from Kotaku, Epic Games is aware of this issue and is currently working on fixing it. Meanwhile, users are still facing fraudulent charges to their accounts.

'Fortnite' Accounts Hacked

One user, a teenager from Lithuania, reports on Reddit that hackers cracked his account and stole €800 (roughly $986) from his mother's credit card which was attached to the account. The hacker reportedly spent everything, leaving the account dry.

That report was from a week ago and Epic Games replied on Reddit, asking for a direct message with more details. In a later edit to the original post, the user says that Epic has since gone silent.

'Fortnite' Fraudulent Charges

Another user, meanwhile, reports on Reddit that a couple of days after buying the Season 3 Battle Pass, they got two receipts on PayPal for two purchases -- one for $74.99 and the other for $99.99. Since the user had not made those purchases, they opened a dispute with PayPal, to no avail. The next day the dispute was closed as no evidence supported a refund, and the user also got an emailed receipt from Epic Games for $99.99. The other receipt, for $74.99, did not arrive from Epic Games until March 1.

The user says that the purchases were from the United States, but the descriptions of the purchases contained some text in Russian. The user submitted a ticket on Feb. 26 and further contacted Epic's billing department on March 1 to ask for a refund but didn't get any response.

Other users took to the Fortnite forum to report similar instances of fraudulent charges. So far, no one has received any explanation, guidance, or solution.

Epic Games Working To Resolve The Issues

"We are aware of instances where users' accounts have been compromised using well-known hacking techniques and are working to resolve these issues directly with those players affected," an Epic Games spokesperson tells Kotaku.

The company is urging people to contact player support if they suspect that their account has been hacked. Until Epic Games comes up with a solution for this matter, Fortnite players are advised to enable two-factor authentication to boost their account's security.
