Epic Games recently opened sign-ups for gamers who want to join the waiting list for Fortnite for iOS devices. The developer has now revealed how it will choose who will get the invites.

Fortnite on mobile devices will allow cross-play with the PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac versions of the game, with the Xbox One left out. While gamers wait for Fortnite to arrive on iPhones and iPads, the wait for cross-platform play between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One continues.

Fortnite Coming To Mobile Devices

Epic Games announced that it was working on a mobile version for Fortnite: Battle Royale. Android users will have to wait for an announcement on availability, but iOS users can now sign up to get the chance to play an early version of the game.

The registration will ask whether or not users already play the game and will be required to log in with their Epic Games account or create one.

According to Epic Games, Fortnite on iOS and Android will be the same game that is available on other platforms, with the same gameplay, content, and weekly updates.

Here's How Devs Choose Players For 'Fortnite' On iOS

It goes without saying that not everyone who signs up will receive an e-mail invite for Fortnite on iOS. In an exchange with David Thier of Forbes, Nick Chester, Epic Games PR manager, revealed the criteria for selecting the people who will receive the invites.

"Factors that contribute to the order in which players receive invites include sign up order, proximity to a data center, and device model, among other factors," Chester said.

The sign-up order is a given, as it shows how interested a person is on playing Fortnite on the iPhone or iPad. It also appears that Epic Games, which utilizes Amazon Web Services for the Battle Royale servers, will choose players who are near data centers for stability purposes.

Device model will likely not limit the chosen players to the newest iOS devices, though. Epic Games would like to make sure that Fortnite works well on the lower end of the eligible devices.

Fortnite Cross-Play

Microsoft is pushing for cross-platform play for Fortnite between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If the feature is enabled, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will be able to play with each other in online matches despite being on different gaming networks.

Sony, however, has again blocked Microsoft's advances. Both Microsoft and Epic Games have expressed interest in cross-play between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but Sony remains unmoved in its stance against the feature.

Fortnite for iOS and Android will offer cross-play with the PlayStation 4, PC, and Mac. It remains to be seen if it is the most of what Epic Games is allowed to offer or if Sony will finally give in.
