Microsoft Edge has finally found its way to iPads and Android tablets a few months after the browser was rolled out to iPhones and Android smartphones.

Windows 10 users were reportedly being forced to use Edge by making links in the Mail app open on it instead of their preferred browsers. The expansion of the Edge browser into iPads and Android tablets is now the latest attempt of Microsoft in attracting more users to the software.

Microsoft Edge On iPad And Android Tablets

Microsoft Edge for the iPad may now be downloaded for free on the Apple Store, while the version of the internet browser for Android tablets is also a free download on the Google Play Store.

Users signed in to the Microsoft Edge browser across multiple devices will see their passwords, favorites, and reading lists synced. This means a seamless experience for users across their iPhones and iPads and Android phones and tablets with the Windows 10 PC. The browser also comes with a voice-based search engine, a built-in QR code reader, and the InPrivate mode.

However, the Microsoft Edge falls short of functionality when used on the iPad Pro. The browser is not compatible with the split-screen feature of the IOS 11, so it could not be displayed alongside another app on the massive iPad Pro.

Why Choose Edge Over Safari And Chrome?

The iPad and Android tablets come with Apple's Safari and Google's Chrome as the default browsers, both of which work perfectly well in their respective devices. Why would users download and browse the internet on the Microsoft Edge instead?

Microsoft rolled out Edge for the iPad and Android tablets to improve the Continue on PC feature that the company has touted for Windows 10. The feature allows users to share a website, app, photo, and other content from Edge on their other devices and continue working on them on a Windows 10 PC.

It should be noted that the Continue on PC feature does not relay the information over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. As long as the user is logged in to their Microsoft Account on both devices, their data on the Edge browser will be synced.

The Continue on PC feature looks to keep PCs relevant in a world where mobile device usage is increasing. For those who often switch between their iPad or Android tablet to their Windows 10 PC, Edge is a viable alternative over Safari and Chrome.
