Being the child of a video game director who works for one of the most prestigious franchises in the history of gaming apparently doesn't mean anything. Todd Howard, executive producer Bethesda, says his son doesn't even know anything about The Elder Scrolls VI.

When Howard's son began asking questions about the Elder Scrolls universe, prying him for information on when Elder Scrolls VI is coming out, Howard had no choice but to deny his kid the privilege of exclusive information.

"I'm like, 'Uhh, I'm not gonna talk about that right now either," Howard said in a recent episode of the Game Maker's Notebook podcast. His son kept on prying, though. "He's like, 'Can I give you my ideas? Can I work on it? Come on, tell me a few things, I'm not gonna tell anybody.'"

The bigger news here, however, is that there is a new Elder Scrolls single-player game in the works, though Howard did hint about it in a 2016 interview. However, Bethesda has stated that it has some other major projects it wants to finish and release before sharing any information about the next Elder Scrolls title. That means it's highly unlikely Bethesda will share anything about the game at this year's forthcoming E3 conference.

The Elder Scrolls

The Elder Scrolls is a series of role-playing open world fantasy titles that collectively have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. The first game, The Elder Scrolls: Arena, was released in 1994 for MS-DOS, and the latest entry comes in the form of a collectible card video game called The Elder Scrolls: Legends.

Skyrim

Possibly the most popular entry is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which was released in 2011 to overwhelming critical acclaim and commercial success. It has since been released in various forms, for instance a Special Edition variant in 2016, which saw the original game remastered for modern systems such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Versions for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation VR were also released in November last year. The original went on to collect major awards from a roster of gaming sites and publications, including, of course, the most prestigious "Game of the Year" accolade.

It's hard to imagine exactly how Bethesda plans to follow up Skyrim, but now we know the project is extremely secretive to the point that even Howard's kid himself isn't privy to the tiniest bit of information.
