OnePlus has fresh new Oreo-based betas for four smartphones: the OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 3T, the OnePlus 5, and the OnePlus 5T, and they also include the latest Android security patch.

While the rumor mill is busy churning in anticipation of the next "flagship killer," expected to launch soon as the OnePlus 6, the company is still taking care of its older flagships.

In addition to teasing the OnePlus 6 itself, OnePlus has also announced new OxygenOS open betas for older smartphones along with a number of improvements and treats.

OnePlus Open Betas Add April Android Security Patch

First off, the company clarifies which smartphone gets which build. The OnePlus 3 gets Beta 34, the OnePlus 3T gets Beta 25, the OnePlus 5 gets Beta 8, and the OnePlus 5T gets Beta 6. All of these builds include the monthly Android security patch for April.

For those unfamiliar with this concept, these monthly security patches aim to keep Android devices protected against the latest threats. These types of updates are typically available even for older smartphones that no longer qualify for new OS updates. Google releases the patches each month, but it is then up to device makers to distribute them to their own devices.

OnePlus Oreo-Based Open Betas: What's New?

In addition to the Android security patch for the month of April, the new open betas based on Android Oreo also bring a new card package, allowing users to add a membership card to their Shelf.

For instance, users can scan membership or subscription cards based on their bar codes or QR codes, then easily add them to their Shelf for convenient use. The changelog also mentions a new UI for the Stopwatch, an enhanced background color for alarms, as well as other UI changes. These apply to all four smartphones.

The OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T, meanwhile, are also getting improved features for the Earphone mode. These include autoplay for paused music when inserting the headphones, more ringtone options for notifications, and the option to announce caller information when the phone is connected to earphones.

Beta Builds And Stability

As always, users must keep in mind that beta builds are still in the works and they may need some more polishing and tweaking before being ready for public release. Having said that, beta builds are not always stable and various issues might arise, so make sure to acknowledge all risks before proceeding with a beta software version. Those who are already on a previous open beta version will get the new build automatically.
