Nestlé UK is launching a new flavor for its iconic 4-finger chocolate and Tesco will release it exclusively starting April 16.

KitKat fans in the UK will be the first to get a taste of this new offering while chocolate lovers across Europe will be next. Consumers in the United States will soon have it as well.

Nestlé UK describes the new KitKat Ruby as its latest breakthrough innovation. The launch underlines the company's commitment to growing its confectionery brands for its millions of consumers.

"We know that a new type of KitKat is a really big deal and we are very excited to be able to offer a different type of chocolate for KitKat fans to try," says Alex Gonnella, marketing director for Nestlé UK.

Alexander von Maillot, the company's global head of confectionery, highlights the speed on how Nestlé developed KitKat Ruby. It only took the team four months to create the new variety after Ruby Chocolate was publicly introduced in September 2017.

Ruby Chocolate's Taste And Its Natural Pink Color

The new KitKat Ruby is coated with Ruby chocolate, which is made from Ruby beans. These chocolate beans have an intense berry-fruitness taste that is not bitter, milky, or sweet.

It requires no additional artificial flavoring or coloring to achieve the chocolate's pink color. Ruby beans come from different regions across the globe, including the Ivory Coast, Ecuador, and Brazil.

Swiss chocolatier Barry Callebaut dedicated more than a decade in inventing Ruby chocolate. The process involved in-depth research and collaboration with Germany's Jacobs University. The chocolate also underwent testing and validation process by various independent global research agencies in the UK, United States, China, and Japan.

"Ruby chocolate meets a consumer need no chocolate ever did before," says Haystack, an international research agency.

This same quality is integrated with the new KitKat Ruby.

"Consumers across the world will be intrigued by the unique taste of this crispy delight," says Pablo Perversi, chief innovation, quality, and sustainability officer at Barry Callebaut.

KitKat With Ruby Chocolate First Introduced In Japan And South Korea

Japanese KitKat introduced KitKat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby on Jan 19, 2018. The product joined other Japanese KitKat flavors, including the famous KitKat Maccha Green Tea, purple sweet potato, edamame bean, and wasabi.

The company has become the first consumer brand in the world to introduce Ruby chocolate following its announcement in 2017.

The launch of KitKat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby, on the other hand, is historical for the whole Nestlé brand. Ruby chocolate is the fourth type of chocolate next to Dark, Milk, and White. For more than 80 years, people have only known these three types of chocolate.
