Amid the whole #DeleteFacebook scandal, dating app Bumble has decided to allow users to log in without a Facebook account.

For those unfamiliar with the matter, Facebook recently went under fire over the Cambridge Analytica matter that compromised millions of accounts as well as its data collection practices. Consequently, a number of users and companies have decided to drop the social network and delete all of their Facebook accounts and activity.

A number of apps, however, relied on Facebook and other social networks for easy login and authentication, including Bumble.

Bumble And Facebook Data

Since its launch back in 2014, Bumble has relied on Facebook to make the registration and login easier and faster. Those just registering for the app would share their Facebook information, and Bumble got their name, age, occupation, school, and photos from the social network to build a dating profile.

Bumble got access to troves of Facebook data including account information such as one's friends list, location, relationship status, and mutual friends with other Bumble users. The Facebook data also helped Bumble find suitable matches for its users.

In turn, Facebook also got some details regarding the behavior of Bumblers, which now seems more important in the aftermath of the data collection scandal. As a result, Bumble is now willing to make a change to its login system for those who don't want to use their Facebook account anymore.

Bumble Login Without Facebook

The new login system will launch on Tuesday, April 17, and will enable users to register and log into the dating app without having to share any data with Facebook. Those who still prefer to log in using their Facebook account, meanwhile, can continue to do so.

"Many of our users and prospective users asked for an alternative registration method," explains Louise Troen, Bumble's VP of International Marketing and Communications. "As always, empowering our users to make connections is our number one priority and we wanted to continue to ensure our users felt safe while doing this."

Instead of their Facebook account, users who prefer alternatives will be able to register and log into the dating app using their phone number. Bumble further highlights that other apps that let users register with their phone number still share some information with Facebook, but its new system will bypass Facebook altogether.

On the other hand, the Facebook login made things easier and faster compared to manual logins, so it will be interesting to see whether Bumble's new registration and login system will be successful or not.
