A 13-year-old boy from Mobile, Alabama miraculously came back to life after being proclaimed brain dead due to multiple skull fractures he sustained in an accident.

Trenton McKinley got involved in freak utility vehicle accident in March that caused him to suffer severe brain injuries. His mother, Jennifer Nicole Reindl, said Trenton died four times, including an instance where he lost his vitals for 15 minutes.

The last time doctors tried to revive Trenton, Jennifer said he had no brain waves and has a damaged brain stem. His vitals dropped to 40/20, and his heartbeat is only driven by adrenaline.

Doctors at UAB Children's Hospital in Birmingham warned that repeated attempts to revive Trenton's body would cause further damage to his organs. The family was informed that even if Trenton comes back to life, the problems with oxidation in the brain would be huge that he would be likely in a vegetative state.

Jennifer felt compelled to sign the papers on Trenton's organ donation. Right before the doctors performed the final brain wave test, he showed signs of cognition, and his hands and feet moved.

"They say no one has ever came back from complete death of the brain stem and heart, but God did for my son what he did for his own. And I am so honored to have him back this is my testimony. God is good," Jennifer posted on Facebook, calling her son a miracle child.

Trenton was riding in a small utility trailer pulled by a dune buggy for kids. He recalled that his friend suddenly stepped into the brakes, causing the trailer to flip right and Trenton hit the concrete. The trailer then landed on his head, which caused several skull fractures.

Back To Life

Trenton is now on a long road to recovery, especially that he lost almost 23 kilograms (50 pounds) of weight. Despite this, he managed to maintain his humor and still be grateful for his second life.

"I said I could turn sideways and put salsa in there and eat chips and dip out of my head. No more washing dishes for me," Trenton said. "She wouldn't let me put nothing in it though. I really wanted to see if I could."

Trenton is scheduled for another surgery, where the doctors would reattach a part of his skull that is still frozen in the hospital. Jennifer said they are told of the risks of the operation since it would entail reopening the skull, and that the odds are against them.

Trenton asked for prayers that he can survive the upcoming surgery, adding that he is still weak from the previous one.
