The highly anticipated OnePlus 6 flagship killer is set to make its official debut on May 16, yet the company has already confirmed that it will qualify for Google's new Android P open beta.

Each year, Google announces the latest version of Android at its I/O developer conference. After which, it launches beta programs before the OS is actually ready for public release.

So far, only Google's Nexus and Pixel devices are eligible for early Android builds, but it looks like Android P is more open. This time, seven Android smartphone vendors will participate in the Android P development, testing beta builds, and OnePlus is one of them.

Android P Open Beta For OnePlus 6

Although Google is already working to optimize Android P, the OS will not be ready for the stable channel for another few months. A more open Android beta program could mean that some OEMs want to guarantee faster OS updates for their flagships, and the Android P beta could significantly boost the appeal of the upcoming OnePlus 6.

OnePlus rocked the smartphone world by launching "flagship killer" smartphones with top-notch specs and more affordable prices than rival handsets with comparable specifications. It's built a name for itself ever since it launched the OnePlus One back in 2014 and has grown significantly in recent years.

Timely Firmware Updates

The company takes pride in being among the world's best OEMs when it comes to delivering timely software updates. Enrolling in the Android P beta program further strengthens its commitment to keeping its flagships updated to the latest firmware.

"In collaboration with Google, we are proud to offer OnePlus 6 users an early glimpse at the future of Android," says OnePlus. "Download the Android P Beta for access to some of the latest Android features, and get your apps ready for the upcoming update. With a combination of smooth software and powerful hardware, the OnePlus 6 is primed to get you started on Android P."

OnePlus 6 Launch

At launch, the OnePlus 6 will likely run an Android 8.1 Oreo-based version of OxygenOS out-of-the-box. The Android P beta will be ready for the smartphone as soon as OnePlus unveils on May 16, which could mean that the stable version of the new OS might reach the device sometime in the third quarter.

Google released two Android P developer previews so far, with the third one expected next month, and two more expected by August. The last preview will likely drop just days before the OS enters the stable channel.
