Reports have surfaced that Apple is removing some apps. Technology insiders believe the move comes after certain apps allegedly sent location data to third parties.

An E-Mail Notice

An e-mail has been circulating on the internet that was sent from Apple's Resolution Center. The message states that the technology company reevaluated an unknown developer's app and that the app did not follow the App Store Review Guidelines. The rules that the developer failed to comply with are Sections 5.1.1 and 5.1.2 in the legal section of the App Store Review guidelines.

The Fine Legal Print

The two legal sections address privacy, which Apple laid out as crucial to the company's environment. Section 5.1.1 discusses data collection and storage. App developers must create a privacy policy and get user consent for the app. Apple also charged app developers to be forward with the users and tell them what access features are needed to use the app. If the user declines to give the developer access, the content creators must inform the customers what aspects of the app will not work if they do not have the necessary information.

Section 5.1.2 talks about data use and sharing. Developers are forbidden to hand over data to third parties that do not relate to improving the app. Also, content creators are not allowed to use personal data unless developers obtain their permission and tell them how their data would be used.

Potential For Redemption

The resolution center did offer an opportunity for developers to return to the App Store. Developers must remove anything that relates to location sharing with third parties. Once they remove the items, they can submit the app again to Apple. If the technology company re-approves the app, it will be able to return to the App Store.
