Google recently unveiled the latest version of the Android operating system, Android P, at its annual I/O 2018 press conference.

Google also revealed a host of new features that the new operating system will bring to the table. Of course, Android P is only a temporary name for the upcoming operating system, which is a follow-up to Android 8.0 Oreo.

The official release of Android P's final version is expected later this year, but both fans and developers need not wait that long to try out the new operating system's range of features and design.

The Android P official beta is finally here. It means that those who have a compatible phone can download the update and try it out right now.

Which Phones Are Compatible?

The Android P beta will only work on certain smartphone models. Typically, these beta releases have been limited to Google's own Nexus and Pixel smartphones. Now, however, the company has finally expanded the list of devices that will be able to install the beta version of Android P.

There are 11 smartphone devices that will be able to install the Android P beta. They are listed as follows:

  • Google Pixel
  • Google Pixel XL
  • Google Pixel 2
  • Google Pixel 2 XL
  • Essential PH-1
  • Vivo X21
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
  • Sony Experia XZ2
  • Nokia 7 Plus
  • Oppo R15 Pro
  • OnePlus 6 (yet to launch)

How To Install Android P Beta?

Installing Android P on any of the abovementioned devices is quite simple. What the users need to do is log on to the Beta Program website and sign into their Google account.

Then, they should click the "View your eligible devices" tab before hitting the Enroll button next to the device one wants to update. They will then have to agree to some terms and conditions before confirming their decision.

Next, Google will send a notification to the device as soon as the file is ready to download and install, which could take up to one whole day. It is highly recommended that users back up their devices before installing the new update just in case something goes wrong or if one wishes to switch back to Android Oreo.

Once the update is ready, they can tap on the notification panel and hit the Download button. From there on, Google will walk users through the process and they will be testing out Android P in no time.
