Not only will Google be releasing the latest Pixel phones this fall, but it may also unveil a new Pixel-branded smartwatch that'll run Wear OS.

Trusted industry tipster Evan Blass just posted details about Google's Pixel 3 fall event on Twitter. Google will unveil plenty of Pixel hardware at the event, he says, including second-generation Pixel Buds and a new smartwatch, as mentioned.

Google Announcing Pixel Watch This Fall

"Besides the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, and second-gen Pixel Buds, a reliable source tells me — with high confidence — that Google's fall hardware event will also introduce a Pixel-branded watch. Have a great summer!" Blass tweeted.

Supposing Blass is right, it's nice to know Google hasn't given up on smartwatches yet, even when the rest of the world has, it seems. The company recently rebranded Android Wear to Wear OS but didn't explain much about that decision. It's possible that by giving it a new name, Google is attempting to freshen up its smartwatch platform.

Given Google's steadily increasing hardware portfolio over the last two years, it makes a lot of sense for it to release a new smartwatch under the new Pixel branding, if only to showcase Wear OS and bring it back to the conversation again.

Not much details about the Pixel Watch is available, other than the rumor that it'll get announced alongside the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, both of which are also largely enigmas at this point. Google typically holds a major hardware event every October, so it's possible more rumors and leaks are going to come as we enter fall.

3 Pixel Smartwatches

An even more surprising rumor, as reported by WinFuture, claims that Google is planning to unveil not one, but three smartwatches at the event. The devices are reportedly codenamed Ling, Triton, and Sardine, and they've apparently reached the stage where Google decides whether the hardware design will pass for mass production. How these three watch models differ from one another is uncertain, but they'll allegedly run on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform, which will use a quad-core CPU, Adreno 304 GPU, and a 28-nanometer manufacturing process.

As with any rumors, take this with plenty of salt, because even supposing it's true, there's always a chance Google cancels all three watches altogether. As for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, they're the most likely to be announced this fall, as Google seems committed to its Pixel line of phones, not to mention that it has a lot to make up for, given the roster of hardware issues that plagued the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

An earlier rumor also suggests Google will release a midrange version of the Pixel 3.
