Fujifilm announces a brand new mirrorless camera model, the X-T100, from its X Series product line on Thursday, May 24.

The compact camera is an entry-level variant in the X Series lineup but possesses the same style and functionality of Fujifilm's more premium mirrorless cameras, including an electronic viewfinder.

Fujifilm has introduced the X-T100 as a better alternative above the 2-year-old entry level X-A5 model, which does not have a viewfinder. However, the Tokyo-based company has retained some of the same specs of that model and bundled it into a more advanced product that is ideal for photographers who don't have deep pockets.

Features, Specs, And Design

The X-T100 boasts an OLED electronic viewfinder with a 0.39-inch display featuring a 2.36-million dot resolution and a magnification of 0.62x.

In addition to Bluetooth connectivity, the X-T100 also comes with a flip-out touch-screen display, which can be tilted in three directions. The X-T100 sports a design that is similar to that of Fujifilm's high-end models such as the X-T20 and X-T2 and will be available in three colors: black, Dark Silver, and Champagne Gold.

The camera is equipped with a 24.2-megapixel CMOS (not X-Trans) APS-C sensor with a high-speed image-processing engine. The sensor has an ISO range of 200-12800, which can be extended to 100-51200. The X-T100 also features a burst mode of 6 fps shooting for up to 26 frames, which is double the capacity of the X-A5.

While the camera does have 4K video recording, the only drawback is that it is limited to 15 fps. On the bright side, it allows users to record both 4K and Full HD 1080p for up to 30 minutes continuously.

Another notable feature of the X-T100 is the SR+ Auto mode, which detects not only the subject but also the scene simultaneously and automatically adjusts the settings to capture the best shots.

The SR+ Auto mode is "perfect for situations where it is difficult to select the right settings, or when a series of quick shots is what the photographer is after," according to Fujifilm.

Pricing And Release Date

The X-T100 is expected to start shipping in June for $600 ($700 for the kit with the Fujinon XC15-45mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ power zoom lens.), making it $300 cheaper than its mirrorless sibling, the X-T20.

The X-T100's features and affordable pricing make it a strong competitor to models like the Olympus OM-D E-M10 III and more expensive models from Sony.
