The Wonder Woman sequel's title has been revealed along with other spoilers released by the director, Patty Jenkins. Jenkins shared a tweet that contained a picture of a character who would be returning for the sequel that was presumed to be dead.

Wonder Woman 1984

At the end of the 2017 summer film, the titular character, Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), mourned the death of her love, Captain Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), after he sacrificed himself by hijacking a plane that was carrying a deadly form of mustard gas and detonating it.

Trevor's death, though devastating, renewed Prince's faith in humanity and led her to fight on the world's behalf.

However, it looks like Trevor may not be gone after all. Jenkins shared a photo of the "deceased" Captain in the second film which will be set decades after the first film's events.

Jenkins has not revealed if this version of Trevor is real, a figment of Prince's imagination, or possibly a descendant of Trevors'. Another picture, that was shared by Gadot, showed the actress as Prince staring at televisions displaying retro pop culture.

The second film will feature Prince conflicting with the Cold War during the 1980's and another foe, Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva / Cheetah. Comedian and Bridesmaids actress, Kristen Wiig has been cast as the villain Cheetah and Kingsman: The Golden Circle actor, Pedro Pascal, will also star in the film as an unknown character.

There hasn't been any confirmation yet if the other characters from the first Wonder Woman film will appear in the sequel.

Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to be released on Nov. 1, 2019. The film's predecessor met widespread acclaim with many critics calling it the best film from the DC extended universe.

Following the 2017 film, Gadot reprised her role as Prince in the DC film, Justice League, that also starred: Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman. Justice League followed the events of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of the Justice League, and featured the superheroes joining forces to stop the alien military officer, Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds).

The film also starred Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash, and Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg.
