Even after an impressive E3 2018 presentation, Nintendo fans still demand to know why Metroid Prime 4 was absent. Reggie Fils-Aime finally shares some answers.

Something Was Amiss

This year's Electronic Entertainment Expo appears to be a mixed bag. Despite the lofty expectations from gamers, Squaresoft and EA noticeably failed to deliver with their respective demonstrations. On the other hand, some of the better announcements continue to generate hype even after the event already ended.

Some of the crowd-favorites such as Devil May Cry 5, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Gears of War 5, Halo: Infinite, Death Stranding, Anthem, Fallout 76, Spider-Man and others were some of the highlights from the first few days.

A lot of people are in agreement that there were fewer titles than what rumors suggested a few months before the show. Overall, this year's E3 is something of a hit and miss in some places.

An Established Company Practice

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president, reveals that the company traditionally only showcases games that will be available in the near future. This means that just like the new Yoshi game for the Switch, the new Metroid game still has ways to go before the management makes another announcement.

"There are times where we'll bend the strategy for unique situations like Metroid Prime 4 last year, but mostly we want to focus on the here and now," said Fils-Aime. "We don't believe it's in the fan's best interest to tease them year after year after year about a piece of content. We want to say here it is, here's when it's coming, and get ready for it," he added.

Closing The Show With A Bang

After a dismal start from EA and disappointing follow-up by Squaresoft, gamers were eager to see surprises from the other publishers. Nintendo was the last one scheduled to present and it revealed several titles that fans wanted to see.

During its Super Smash Bros. Ultimate demonstration, Ridley was finally confirmed as part of the roster. Most people immediately speculated that Metroid Prime 4 will soon follow after the segment. However, the highly-anticipated announcement was a bust.

Nevertheless, with all of the upcoming titles that will launch soon for the Nintendo Switch gamers will most likely be busy to care. The trailer for Super Smash Party teases a new way to connect multiple game systems and play multiplayer games. Epic Games finally makes Fortnite: Battle Royale available for the hybrid game system, which Reggie Fils-Aime claims was downloaded by over 2 million users on the same day.
