A new update is reportedly coming to the Huawei P20 Pro camera, making the whole experience even more impressive with a new slow-motion mode.

The Huawei P20 Pro has a top-notch three-lens camera setup that's unparalleled, and it's widely considered to be one of the best camera smartphones currently available on the market.

Huawei P20 Pro Camera Update

While it takes excellent pictures, however, the Huawei P20 Pro's video recording capabilities have not been as highly regarded. That's about to change soon if a new report turns out to be accurate, as Huawei is reportedly gearing up to add an ultra slow-motion camera mode that will allow users to shoot videos in up to 960 frames per second.

The news comes from XDA Developers, which usually provides accurate information about such upcoming updates. XDA says that the feature will hit the triple-lens camera smartphone later this year, but has no exact timeframe for when this will happen. At this point, it's anyone's guess.

Either way, the Huawei P20 Pro won't be the only smartphone to support super slow-motion video recording. The Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus, the Sony Xperia XZ2, and the Xperia XZ2 Compact all support 960 fps video recording, so Huawei is just catching up on this front.

For the time being, it remains unclear whether Huawei will let P20 Pro users select which parts of their video they want to slow down, or whether it will do it automatically where it sees fit.

In addition to this slo-mo recording option, the update will reportedly change the zoom interface as well, and it will allow users to zoom in and out by swiping in the camera viewfinder. This option sounds similar to what the LG V30 has to offer with its "Point Zoom," but it remains to be seen just how it will pan out on the Huawei P20 Pro.

Huawei P20 Pro Appeal

As a reminder, the Huawei P20 Pro made its debut earlier this year as the company's latest flagship smartphone, rocking impressive specs and features all around. It's the first smartphone to boast three cameras on its back, at a time when there are still plenty of smartphones with single rear cameras. All three cameras on the Huawei P20 Pro have high-quality Leica lenses and offer optical image stabilization, among other features.

Other highlights of the Huawei P20 Pro include an octa-core, 64-bit Kirin 970 processor and a massive 8 GB of RAM, which is more than most smartphones have to offer.

The camera update should further boost the Huawei P20 Pro's appeal, but keep in mind that it's just a leak at this point. Until it's formally confirmed or deployed, take this report with a grain of salt.
