Microsoft might currently be developing a port of an existing app for Android and iOS. While the company has largely abandoned Windows 10 Mobile, it's been hard at work trying to port the best of Windows 10 to its rival platforms.

For the most part, that has worked well for Microsoft, with apps such as Microsoft Launcher and its proprietary browser, Edge, accumulating millions of downloads on Android and iOS combined. That means even though Windows Mobile is dead, Microsoft's mobile apps are still able to flourish via rival systems.

Microsoft Is Working On A Movies & TV App For Android, iOS

Microsoft hopes to expand its app library for third parties with Movies & TV app, which is still currently locked within Windows 10 PCs, Xbox consoles, and Windows 10 Mobile. That means users who have a huge collection of content from Microsoft's store are left unable to access it on an Android or iOS device. However, it appears Microsoft wants to change that. According to Windows Central's sources, the Redmond company is working to get the app on rival platforms.

Microsoft hopes that by rolling out the app, more people are enticed to buy content from its store, the sources claim. The fact is most people have moved on to streaming services for their entertainment fix, but there's still a lot of content not readily available on streaming platforms. With the reported Movies & TV app, Microsoft will help people, particularly Android and iOS users, know that they can buy exclusive content from its store.

Of course, make sure to treat everything above as rumor, but it's at least reassuring that Microsoft doesn't seem to be planning to kill its Movies & TV service, a move many users speculated after the company killed its Groove streaming service last year. Microsoft says it continues to remain committed to Movies & TV, and these new mobile apps should help solidify that messaging.

Microsoft Joining Movies Anywhere?

There's also a rumor saying Microsoft will soon participate in the so-called Movies Anywhere program, allowing users to watch previously purchased content on any eligible platform. For instance, if a customer buys a film on iTunes, the same film can be watched via Google Play because both Apple and Google support the program. It's an incredibly robust and consumer-friendly solution, one that prioritizes ease of access over profit-making.
