Wonder Woman has become one of the most iconic superheroes in recent memory. She's always been iconic, sure, but she hasn't been this pervasive in the current pop culture dialogue as before, and that's in large part thanks to Patty Jenkins's ultra-successful film adaptation last year.

Not only did the film do wonders for the comic book character, reinvigorating her narrative and signaling that her story is as important as that of the male superheroes around her, but more importantly, it also marked a crucial inflection point that indicated female superheroes have space in the forefront too. The film's box office success was a symptom of change: viewers are thirsty for excellent female representation in the mainstream superhero landscape.

Wonder Woman Goes To Children's Hospital

Due to Wonder Woman's success, there's now a second film being made called Wonder Woman 1984. The cast and crew are currently in the process of filming, but Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot recently took a break from production to visit the Inova Children's Hospital in Annandale, Virginia, this weekend, decked out in her full Wonder Woman gear.

There, she visited the hospital staff and patients, who seemed more than ecstatic to have the superhero wander around their place of work.

"You are a true Wonder Woman. The kids loved it...and so did the staff," wrote Lucas Collazo on Twitter, a doctor at the hospital.

A number of other photos were also shared by fan accounts on Twitter and Reddit. One of them shows Gadot holding a baby. Another photo shows her in the middle of a conversation with a child patient but seemingly interrupted by the photographer, hence her surprised reaction. A screen beside Gadot says, "Epic."

Wonder Woman 1984

Wonder Woman 1984 is currently being filmed in the Washington DC area, but the movie is clearly still in its early production stages since it won't premiere until November next year. Stills from the sequel show Chris Pine's character, Steve Trevor, back in action, which surprised fans considering he was previously thought to be dead at the end of the first film. Kristen Wiig will be joining the cast as nemesis Cheetah, and Pedro Pascal will also be playing a role that's yet to be specified.

Jenkins will be directing again. The screenplay is written by Jenkins, Geoff Johns, and David Callaham. No in-depth details on the story yet, but it's definitely going to be set in 1984, with Wonder Woman coming into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s.
