Nintendo's latest Direct, which focused on the upcoming Switch title Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, has announced a special bundle that will be available on Dec. 7.

The special bundle called the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Limited Edition comes with a physical copy of the game, a Smash-themed GameCube controller, and a USB adapter that allows players to plug in up to four GameCube players to their Switch console.

The bundle has only been announced in Europe thus far, although it is very likely it will come to the United States as well, as it will not make much sense if it does not.

A common denominator among serious Super Smash Bros. players is that they prefer playing the game with a GameCube controller ever since Melee came out for the GameCube on 2001. Thereafter, each Super Smash Bros. title has supported the controller as the main input.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Limited Edition

The Limited Edition comes in a huge black box adorned with the characters that can be played in the game. It is so big, in fact, that some people might mistake it as an actual Switch bundle — as in the console itself being included. That would have been nice, though. Nintendo has yet to reveal pricing.

For those who do not want to purchase the bundle, Nintendo will also sell standalone GameCube controllers. Interested customers can now preorder it on Amazon for $30, but it does not include an adapter. This is sold separately and is also now available for prepurchase.

Nintendo has revealed plenty of new information about Ultimate in its Direct presentation, including the additions of Simon and Richter Belmont, King K. Pool, and Dark Samus as playable characters. The game will also feature a Monster Hunter boss, new stages that can transform in the middle of a match, and a soundtrack that has over 800 songs.

All Characters Included

Ultimate is the first and probably the only Super Smash Bros. title on the Switch following entries for both the 3DS and Wii U several years ago. It is perhaps the biggest title of the franchise to date, if only for the fact that it will feature every single character that has appeared in the series's entire history. The game was announced at Nintendo's E3 presentation this past June.

Super Smash Bros. is one of Nintendo's most popular franchises, up there with the Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, and Yoshi series. There is a huge competitive community centered around these games, which will definitely thrive even further once this game finally comes out.
