An Apple store in the Leidseplein Square in Amsterdam has been temporarily closed after an iPad battery explosion resulted in leaking vapors.

The fire was immediately dealt with by staff members from Apple after soaking the device into a container full of sand. Firefighters responded to the scene at 2:20 p.m. Local media reported that three people had to be treated with respiratory issues after the incident.

Workers and shoppers were permitted to come back in the shop momentarily at 3.p.m. Multiple sources say that firefighters are currently ventilating the space in hopes of clearing out any harmful chemicals. According to 9to5Mac, the incident has no relation to the recent iPhone battery replacement program.

Not The First Time

Thermal events have also occurred in both Spain and Switzerland earlier this year, with the incident in the latter resulting in one person suffering minor burns. Six others also received treatment in the Zurich incident due to smoke inhalation.

In addition, Apple's Chinese suppliers such as Foxconn has also encountered serious safety issues such as chemical exposure, fire, and explosion throughout the past few years. New York Times and Business Insider reported that obnoxious and arduous practices at the branches of Foxconn are still continuing through this year.

Just like most of the top mobile companies, Apple uses rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in their devices since they have the ability to hold plenty of energy and are compact in size. However, lithium-ion batteries tend to explode if the thin polypropylene layer is breached.

Battery explosions can also stem from an overheated flammable electrolyte. While Apple has constantly been suffering battery problems on iPhone and Macbook, Gizmodo noted that deadly overheating and fires are certainly not on the upper-echelon of the list.

Related To Apple Discounts

Apple Insider argues that the recent explosions may be in relation to Apple's enormous discounted replacements. It can be recalled that Apple decided to sell battery replacements for as low as $29 to appease users who have been constantly complaining about the weakened batteries of the iPhones.

Prior to the discount sale, battery replacement costs $79. Apple Insider added that more foot traffic may indicate a higher chance of discovering faults.

Nonetheless, 9to5Mac advised Apple users to head straight to Apple or the closest authorized Apple service provider instead of replacing a swollen battery manually. Elsewhere, Apple Music announced that they are releasing a personalized playlist of the favorite songs of your friends.
