Chinese drone maker DJI has boosted its line of camera drones with the release of the Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom.
During the unveiling of its Mavic 2 models in New York, DJI called the products as the company's "most technologically advanced drones." According to DJI, Mavic 2 Pro is the world's first drone with an integrated Hasselblad camera, while the Mavic 2 Zoom is the world's first foldable consumer drone with optical zoom capability.
"Today, we enter a new era of aerial photography with the introduction of DJI's new flagship product, the Mavic 2 series," said Roger Lou, DJI president. Lou pointed out that "the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom will enable photographers and videographers to take their inspirations to the air quickly and elevate their creative ideas to new heights."
The Mavic 2 carries the folding design of the popular Mavic Pro, but it incorporated other features such as Hyperlapse and ActiveTrack for easier and more dynamic storytelling that will appease professionals, aerial photographers, and content creators. Thanks to its redesigned and more aerodynamic bodies, the new models have a speed of up to 44 miles per hour with a flight time of up to 31 minutes, on top of a more stable video transmission system.
The Mavic 2 Pro, which includes a Hasselblad camera with a 1-inch sensor, can be purchased for $1,450. The Mavic 2 Zoom, equipped with a camera with a 1/2.3-inch sensor with 2X optical zoom and 4X digital zoom, is priced at $1,250.
Mavic 2 Pro Provides Superior Image Quality
DJI has co-engineered the Mavic 2 Pro with Hasselblad, the world's best when it comes to medium format photography. With an integrated Hasselblad camera, Mavic 2 Pro provides outstanding image quality with superior light and color performance. With a help of a 1-inch CMOS sensor with a 10-bit Dlog-M color profile, the drone camera can give photo and video editors more flexibility as it captures four times as many levels of color per channel compared to the Mavic Pro. The colors are also accurate, thanks to Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HNCS) technology. The Mavic 2 Pro can be plugged into a 4K TV with HLG through its 4K 10-bit HDR support.
Mavic 2 Zoom Provides Versatility
As its name suggests, the Mavic 2 Zoom beefs up the capability of photographers and videographers with its zoom feature. The Mavic 2 Zoom has a 2x optical (24-48mm) and 2x digital zoom, which simulate the effects of a 96mm lens. Mavic 2 Zoom's 12-megapixel camera contains a "Super Resolution" feature for landscape photographers, allowing them to stitch nine zoomed-in photos for a super high-resolution 48-megapixel shot. It also includes the Quickshot mode called DollyZoom, where it allows the user to zoom in while the drone is moving away from a subject.
