College students will soon discover and get along with fellow batchmates from the same college community with Instagram's college community feature.

Connect With Fellow College Students

The feature, which is in its preliminary testing stages, is set to provide college users with the capacity to send direct messages and gain entry to other students' public story instantly from the community lists. Consequently, Instagram would then authenticate students with the information people have publicly shared about the accounts they follow and their connections as well as their universities.

In addition, students who are invited to the community list need to initially input their universities and the graduating year from a collection of predetermined options. Instagram's move comes in the heels of Tinder releasing its "Tinder U" product earlier this week. The Tinder U, which can only be accessed by iOS users, enables college students from universities in the United States to date fellow students within their university. To use the Tinder U, students must have college email addresses (.edu).

Instagram is presently examining the component with the hopes of making the photo-sharing application similar to its parent company, Facebook. The recognized photo-messaging program has been the only positive thing for Facebook as their parent company currently deals with various criticisms and boomerang from users and lawmakers, who are alarmed about the privacy and the Cambridge Analytica fiasco.

CNN noted that Instagram's rapid growth has helped cancel out the curbing development of Facebook, which saw deteriorating numbers of daily users in the United States and other established souks. In the second quarter of this year, Facebook managed to add 22 million daily active users, which is almost less than half of last year's 41 million added users.

Not A Perfect Feature

Nonetheless, Instagram's upcoming peripheral displayed some glitches as one CNBC reporter joined the list for their alma mater as a current student even though they don't go there anymore. Engadget mentioned that Instagram is likely to make the necessary alterations in the development stage before officially releasing the component if it ever agrees to do so.

Meanwhile, the photo-messaging application has been adopting Snapchat's iconic features by letting users add filters and stories as well as names for videos and photos. Just recently, Instagram unveiled a myriad of attractive attributes which included video chat options and filters not to mention the Instagram TV, to captivate more people to its already prevailing 1 billion active monthly users.
