Researchers are willing to pay $300 for people to eat avocado every day, which sounds like a good deal for those who love the fruit.

The people who accept the offer will be participating in a study to determine whether eating avocados will help with weight loss, which is an interesting premise when avocados contain the highest fat content of any fruit.

Get Paid To Eat Avocadoes For Weight Loss Research

Loma Linda University, Penn State University, Tufts University, and the University of California, Los Angeles are each trying to sign up 250 people to eat avocados every day, for research purposes.

According to Dr. Joan Sabate, the 1,000 test subjects will be part of a study that examines whether eating one avocado per day results in lower visceral adipose fat in a person's abdomen. The hypothesis is that avocados will help people trim their belly fat and support weight loss.

To qualify, interested participants should be at least 25 years old, with a waistline of at least 40 inches for males and at least 35 inches for females. People accepted as test subjects will need to eat one avocado daily for six months, or eat only two avocados per month over the same period.

The participants will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups, and will receive a free MRI and health screening. Upon successful completion of the study, participants will be able to receive $300 each.

For people who will be in the group tasked with eating one avocado daily, the challenge will be to stay creative in preparing the fruit to not get sated with it.

Different Weight Loss Methods

Avocados as possible helpers in weight loss is one of the schools of thought in the keto diet, which forces the body into a metabolic state known as ketosis by maintain a low-carb, high-fat diet. The keto diet is currently one of the more popular methods for weight loss, and also for building up the endurance of athletes.

There are other studies into weight loss methods though, including a miracle pill that may allow people to eat whatever they want without gaining weight. A new technique named carboxytherapy, meanwhile, injects carbon dioxide gas into the subcutaneous tissue to trim belly fat.

One popular way of losing weight, however, was recently debunked. According to Mayo Clinic researchers, skipping breakfast will not help people lose weight. Instead, they gain a higher risk of weight gain and obesity.
