Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 put everyone on notice after releasing the 'blackout' mode in closed beta on PlayStation 4.

Blackout, which is an 80-player, last-man-standing mode, made headlines after it accumulated more than 300,000 views in a single day. Blackout offers solo, duos, and quads multiplayer modes.

Less But More Exciting

It also marked the first time for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to try out the battle royale mode. Competitors such as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds have been adopting the battle royale mode, with each allowing 100 players to take part in their respective games. While it only caters to 80 players per match, the Blackout mode still showed some promise with its fast-paced gaming environment.

Gaming enthusiasts, which compete in the blackout mode, will start their journey in a helicopter that is set in a random direction. Ensuingly, players plunge on the map with a wingsuit, wherein they will pass through the descent before eventually deploying a parachute for landing.

In addition, the game will also let players enhance their health, weapons, and inventory by looking for bandages, gun attachments, and backpacks respectively. Making the blackout mode relatively challenging for gaming connoisseurs is its inability to regenerate health, which is quite similar to the PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Other than that, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will likewise be loaded with a plethora of mundane multiplayer map locations, which include a devastated version of Nuketown, Turbine, Cargo Docks, Array, and Firing Range. Interestingly, the said locations are also geared with classic weapons that include a version of the heavy-duty ICR assault rifle.

Blackout Won't Be A PUBG-Killer

Regardless of its similarities with PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, gaming analysts believe that the blackout won't be a PUBG-killer. US Gamer mentioned that the blackout mode marks the start of post-PUBG battle royale genre.

It added that Battlefield V, which features a Firestorm battle royale mode, will likely join them soon. Nonetheless, Kotaku noted that Fortnite is still the standard of battle royale, thanks to Epic Games' creation of a distinct combat system.

Meanwhile, Xbox users will also get the taste of the Blackout mode on Sept. 14. Multiple reports said that PC users will receive early access on Friday, with an open beta available the following day.

The blackout beta will come to an end for all platforms on Sept. 17. On a related news, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will launch on Oct. 12.
