Fans of Modern Family should get their tissues ready because one of its characters will not be making past this season alive.

The show's co-creator, Christopher Lloyd, confirmed that an important character on the series will die on its 10th season. Although he did not give fans any clues about who that character will be, he assured that it will be a moving moment and will have an impact on many episodes.

Death In 'Modern Family'

"We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it's not easy to do because that's a heavy subject," he said. "But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it."

The show first aired in 2009 with stars Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Ed O'Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Jesse Tyler Fergusson, Sarah Hyland, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, and Jeremy Maguire, and Sofia Vergara.

Stonestreet, who portrays Cameron Tucker on the popular series, even tweeted about the upcoming death on the show, tagging his co-star, Fergusson who plays Mitchell Pritchett.

Who Will Die

According to its co-creator, fans will also be seeing a big change in the show's family dynamics. Something that its watchers thought might happen soon will also be happening sooner than they expect.

Grim Reaper could be visiting the family's patriarch, Jay Pritchett, played by O'Neill, who have mentioned in previous episodes about not being present forever.

It could also be Phil Dunphy, who was notably taken to the hospital in the show's previous season for surgery. Additionally, other hints are pointing atClaire Dunphy who was diagnosed with a heart condition in Season 4. Until now, fans are still figuring out who will pass away.

Final Season

Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Season 10 will be the Modern Family's last one. The new season will be aired on ABC on Sept. 26.

Just this year, Lloyd and his fellow creator Steve Levitan stated in an interview that the series might not be renewed after this season. Levitan also added that leaving their fans for more is the best way to end it.

Notably, Lloyd revealed to Deadline last year that their initial goal was just to sustain the show. However, in time, they felt that they can be able to govern their future and 10 is a good number.

Lloyd also suggested that the show might end just like the way it began: with a large family event. The show has won five Outstanding Comedy Series Emmys consecutively.
