Taylor Swift has broken her political silence and announced that she will be voting for Phil Bredesen, a democratic senatorial candidate from Tennessee.

In the past, the multi-awarded singer has faced backlash for choosing not to speak about political issues despite her wide influence. However, the 28-year-old singer recently posted her opinion on Instagram about the Senate race between U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, and Gov. Phil Bredesen.

Swift's Support For Bredesen

"I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country," said Swift, adding that she is also fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ community and systemic racism.

"I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love," she also mentioned.

According to the singer, as much as she wants women to be elected in positions of power, she is appalled and terrified by the voting record of Blackburn in congress. Swift does not agree with Blackburn's views on women's pay and gay marriage.

In a tweet, Bredesen thanked the superstar for her kind words and stated that he is honored to have her support and other people from Tennessee who are putting aside partisan shouting. Bredesen was Tennessee's Governor from 2003 to 2011.

Despite her support for Bredesen, she did not mention his endorsement of Brett Kavanaugh in the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh became the topic of headlines after he was alleged with sexual misconduct. Additionally, Swift mentioned that Democrat Jim Cooper also has her support.

Swift's Message To Voters

Furthermore, the singer also encouraged all voters to educate themselves and research about the candidates who are running for position in their respective states. Also, she told her fans to pick a candidate that represents the values that they stand for.

"For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway," she stated.

Swift's surprising announcement came after the upcoming end of her "Reputation" tour in the country.
