The Made by Google event has finally ended, revealing the massively leaked Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the Chrome OS tablet Pixel Slate, and the Facebook Portal-like Home Hub.

The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL immediately drew comparisons to other flagship Android smartphones in the market, particularly Samsung's Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9, respectively. For the Pixel 3, does it have what it takes to take on the Galaxy S9?

Pixel 3 vs Galaxy S9: Display

The Pixel 3 is a bit smaller and lighter than the Galaxy S9, but Samsung's flagship smartphone takes advantage of the slightly more real estate due to its thinner bezels. The Pixel 3 features a 5.5-inch Full HD+ display with pixel density of 443 pixels per inch, but the Galaxy S9 has a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with pixel density of 570 pixels per inch.

Pixel 3 vs Galaxy S9: Specs

The Pixel 3 is powered by Android 9 Pie, which is the latest version of Google's mobile operating system. This gives it a slight advantage over the Galaxy S9, which is currently still on Android 8 Oreo and might not receive the upgrade until next year.

Both smartphones are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, 4 GB of RAM, and storage options starting with 64 GB. The Galaxy S9 has a slightly bigger 3,000 mAh battery compared to the 2,915 mAh battery of the Pixel 3, but the small difference will likely not matter.

Both devices are equipped with a single 12 MP rear camera, but the Pixel 3 has dual 8 MP cameras at the front compared to the single 8 MP front camera of the Galaxy S9. The Pixel 3 has the advantage on paper, but the Galaxy S9 camera is not a pushover.

The Galaxy S9 launched with a starting price of $719, but various promotions are selling the smartphone at a lower price. The Pixel 3, meanwhile, comes with a higher starting price of $799.
